Abstract
The history of forensic science in Korea relates back to the Goryeo dynasty (918-1392 AD). Currently, forensic science in Korea is closely related to the judicial system with authority resting with the prosecutor. Key organizations include the National Forensic Service, the National Digital Forensic Center of the Prosecutor's Office, the Institute of Scientific Investigation affiliated with the Ministry of National Defense and the Korea Coast Guard Research Institute. Information is presented on structure, organization, challenges, research and development, education and current needs.
